1and1 is one of the most popular web hosts out there.  I personally used their services for about 2 years.  Before I used them, I used a super-cheap host that was ~$20 a YEAR!

Needless to say, because I was used to using an extremely cheap host, 1and1 seemed like a huge step up.  However, as my familiarity with internet grew, so did my understanding of web hosts, and I would soon learn that there are way better options out there.

I consider 1and1 in the same group as some of the other popular hosting choices out there; it is good enough to get the job done for a small to medium sized site, and their prices are very low.  However, they fall into the same pricing category as hosts like Bluehost and HostMonster, and when you compare 1and1 to these hosts, you will find out that 1and1 is much worse than these.

The worst part of 1and1 is that they are very shady.  When I went to cancel my account, you need to jump through several hoops before it can even happen.  They are known for continuously charging their customers even after they try to cancel, and their tactic is to make cancellations as painful and complicated as possible.

My advice is to stay away from this hosting company due mainly to their shady business practices.
